Hi. Just quick note to say it's nice to see that the team is still going strong after all this time.
I founded the Surf Team in september 2000 with Cat Scott and we managed to get a few like minded drunkards along to surf. Unfortunately I lost touch with the club when I moved away but i'm glad people have kept it going.

Hi, yep, I too thought it was great to see the surf club still going, but there was a club back in 1994 when I first went to Newcastle! I have to admit it looks abit more official these days though. I remember that freezing water only too well haha Carry on surfing everyone. Love Jill

Hi, I agree with Andy P - I was just surfing the web (sorry...) and wondered if the club was still going - was amazed and filled with pride that it is! I was one of the original founding members in 1982, with the Baird Brothers (Anto & Charlie) whose dad ran a diving shop in Whitley Bay, Greeny and Lanky (both from Whitby area - I never did know their real names!); Anto and Charlie lived in a flat at the top of Hotspur street in Tynemouth - scene of many good parties!! There was also a guy who came from the Fowey area - I can't remember his name who had a T25 van I lusted after, and another called Ian Sykes, I think. I wonder if any of them are still surfing? I lived in town for most of my 5 years at Newcastle (doing an architecture course which I nearly failed due to too much surfing) and used the Metro to get out to the beach. In later years I had a mini which we used to pile into to get up the coast (Hartley reef etc.). No surf shops in those days, so kit was sold out of the back of cars: Nigel Vietch used to bring stuff back from contests and sell it. I have photos somewhere and I think I still have our first club sweatshirt somewhere - can you upload photos to this site? If so I'll dig some stuff out and post it. I'm now based in somerset, so only weekend surfing in north Devon, but still manage to get out quite regularly despite rapidly approaching 50! It's great to see the club is still going - Keep charging and good waves!
